Screen recording with a highlighted cursor

The system cursor is about 12 pixels tall, and once a recording is scaled down for the web it is nearly invisible — clicks leave no trace at all. The fix is to draw a larger cursor and a ripple on each click into the video itself. ReelCap does this while recording, so the effects are already in the exported file.

Doing it without an extension

  1. 1Turn on your operating system's cursor accessibility options to enlarge the pointer system-wide.
  2. 2Enable 'show mouse clicks' in your recorder, if it happens to offer that option.
  3. 3Record the demo as usual with a desktop screen recorder.
  4. 4In an editor, add zoom-ins or highlight shapes over the moments where you click.

Where that falls short

  • System-wide cursor settings change how you work every day, not just while recording.
  • Tab capture doesn't include the hardware cursor at all, so browser recordings can end up with no pointer whatsoever.
  • Adding highlights in an editor is per-click manual work, and it has to be redone for every retake.

Doing it with ReelCap

  1. 1Switch on Highlight cursor and Click ripples in the popup before you record.
  2. 2Record the tab — ReelCap hides the hardware cursor and draws its own in the same place, so there is never a double pointer.
  3. 3Click as you normally would; each click leaves a ripple that fades on its own.
  4. 4Download the file with the effects already rendered into the frames.

Every step happens in your browser. Nothing is uploaded, and the export carries no watermark.
